What to do in Helsinki

My first trip to Helsinki and a few recommendations

On the 14th of September my friend Sümeyye and I went to Helsinki for the first time. With this blogpost I would like to share some recommendations with you and tell about our first trip to Helsinki. To go from Turku to Helsinki we had two possibilities either by train or by bus. But the bus is the cheaper option, especially with the bus service Onnibus. If you book early enough (e.g. one week ahead) you can easily book tickets (to Helsinki and back) for less than 10€ on their website. It takes about two and a half hours depending on the traffic from Turku to Helsinki.
Our first stop was in a cafe as we haven’t had breakfast yet and we were unfortunately a little unlucky with the weather. The Brooklyn Cafe is a good choice for breakfast / snack in a warm and cozy atmosphere. The menu offers delicious bagels, smoothies, yoghurt with granola and berries for reasonable prices (Breakfast set with a coffee or tea 13,50€).

Other places that are definitely worth a visit in Helsinki are:

·      Helsinki Dom (picture below)
·      The harbor (if the weather is good a boat trip is possible)
·      Market Square (fairs and very beautiful during Christmas time)
·      Uspenski cathedral
·      Senaatintori
·      Sibelius memorial

Helsinki is also a good place to go shopping. You can find expensive design stores like Louis Vuitton but also, stores like Victoria Secret, Mango, H&M and Zara. If you enjoy Fazer caféCoffee House or Espresso houseyou won’t have a hard time searching them as these are everywhere.
For Dinner we had nothing fancy just friends and burgers, but it was fine. If you feel like pizza, I would recommend you pizzeria via tribunali.

If you are an exchange student in Finland, Helsinki is a must!
